Philosophy

My Sleep Philosophy:

Sleep is not a luxury, it is a necessity!  Sleep is hugely important for our children’s growth and development.  As parents today we have so many decisions to make and so much information to muddle through in order to decide what is best for our child.  I understand that all children are unique and a cookie-cutter approach doesn’t work for everyone.  I also know that leaving your child alone to cry it out for as long as it takes isn’t a realistic solution for most families.

I want you to know that we can get your child sleeping well using gentler methods that are customized for your child and your family.  Remember, becoming a parent does NOT mean you have to endure months or years on end of sleepless nights.

List of Things we did

The Crying Question:

People tend to be very protective of their sleeping environment; we all like things the same every night and we don’t like any surprises, so making a big change to anyone’s current sleep habits will definitely be met with some protest.  The same will likely be true for your baby.  However, the amount of crying really depends on the individual child and their personality and temperament.

We will work together to train your child in the gentlest way possible and I will not ask you to leave your child to cry it out for long periods.  I do think it helps to look at the big picture.  Sleep training is very short term for a huge long term gain that is beneficial for the entire family!

TESTIMONIALS

“Our son refused to nap! After a 30 min conversation with Amy and armed with new tools our son now naps multiple times a day and he goes to bed without having to be walked in circles; we just have to lay him down and he's out! She's a sleep hero!”

Jessica | Mom of 7-month-old Noah

“We met with Amy to get our son on a better sleep schedule and Amy helped guide us with simple steps to take in order to get him out of our room into his own bedroom all within a couple of weeks! Her guidance has helped us, and our son, a better nights sleep! Thank you, Amy!”

Jamie | Mom of 3-year-old Brayden

Topeka, KS
“Amy was so incredibly patient and helpful through the entire sleep process. Our boy was waking every hour and napping for maybe 20 minutes a day. He was absolutely exhausted and nothing we did seemed to help. Amy put together a sleep plan for us and held my hand the whole way through, and was there for support every single second. I could not be more grateful for Amy for giving us a sleeping, happy baby. Sleeping 12 hours a night, in his own bed, and napping twice a day. This kid is a completely new baby. THANK YOU SO MUCH, AMY!”

SUCCESS STORIES

"Bennett wasn't going to sleep easily for any naps or bedtime. We were doing at least an hour or two of nursing and paci and then when he would wake up, the cycle would continue. Amy has completely changed our entire outlook on sleep. The way Bennett is able to put himself tosleep on his own and put himself back to sleep if he wakes up is incredible. Her help has truly been life-changing. It's so relieving to be able to lay him down at night, leave the room, and be able to have the evenings to do what you need to. Amy is very connected and an amazing listener. She addresses each concern you have and makes sure you understand the plan. She truly cares about your child and how they're progressing. I'd recommend her over and over again (and have)!"

Courtney | Mom of 10-month-old Bennett

"Before the sleep training Ethan woke up every hour to two hours on a good night. We were very skeptical with the sleep training because we had tried everything we read. Now he is sleeping 11 hours straightand it is wonderful! Thank you so much Amy! You are a night life saver!!!"

"If any one of my friends in the Topeka and surrounding areas needs help with getting their kids to sleep, Amy Hough is your gal! She’s completely transformed John’s sleep in just a couple of short weeks. He used to wake up for the day anywhere from 3-5am... most commonly 4:30ish; 5am was a “good” morning. John now sleeps until 6am, and on the occasion that he does wake up before then, he doesn’t fight us on going back to his bed until his special light turns green at 6am. We don’t find him in our bed in the middle of the night anymore either. I thought this was just how things would be with John, and that nothing could help, but Amy saved us! Her methods work."

Amber | Mom of 6-year-old John

Topeka, KS
"We are so thrilled that we chose Amy to walk us through the sleep training process! There is so much info out there on how to get your baby to sleep that it can be overwhelming. It was so nice to
have Amy make a plan for us to follow. It has changed our lives! Our 8-month-old would wake 2-3 times a night wanting to eat and having us pat him to sleep. We would be up for hours each time he woke. Now we put him down in his crib, say good night and don't hear him till the morning!!! (Usually 11 hours!) Nap times have gotten more predictable too. I can't say enough. If you are struggling with having your baby sleep. Call Amy!"

Jessica | Mom of 8-month-old Nehemiah

Wichita, KS
“After many sleepless nights and trying to function at work, we couldn’t figure out how to help our son. Amy knew exactly what to do and was so amazing to work with. She developed a sleep plan specifically for our son and he “graduated” in less than 2 weeks. Amy was professional, compassionate and dedicated to “fixing” our sleep struggles. What a world of difference sleep can make…for my baby and for me. Thank you, Amy!”

"Amy helped me get my son to fall asleep on his own. Months later when I had questions about breaking his early morning wake time, she was so helpful too. We sleep all night now and sleeping is amazing. Thank you Amy!!!"

"We held a seminar with Amy at my business, Ethan + Anna Children’s Boutique, for new moms and expecting moms. I didn’t expect to have so many takeaways to put into practice with my own 2 yo son. He can sleep without a sippy cup now (yes, we gave a 2 yo a sippy full of water each night!) We are still working on getting him into his own bed all night, but I’m amazed at his progress. He is my baby, my youngest, so I try to hold strong and when I have admitted to Amy that I let him cosleep, she was sooo encouraging! I’m extremely happy she’s sharing her passion with other families. It makes a world of difference!"

Aimee | Mom of 2-year-old Archer

"Tonight we laid Hunter down in bed, said goodnight, and walked out of his room. He stayed in bed and went to sleep with very little fuss. For the past 2 nights he has slept through the night without waking up screaming! His night terrors from being overtired are finally going away and he is so much more fun to be around again. A few weeks ago I felt hopeless and just wanted to cry I was so tired!! We would spend hours every night laying with Hunter trying to get him to sleep only for him to wake up 30 mins later screaming! Thank you so much Amy for helping us figure this out and developing a sleep plan that works for my family."

"The best part about having a sleep consultant is that you know someone has your back through this tough process
(and, of course, finally getting full night sleep again)! Amy helped our sleep challenged son get back to sleeping through the night after six months of sleep
regressions left him up half the night. Naps are still a work in progress, but he's finally sleeping in his crib and he even slept for almost two hours
yesterday! The thing about helping your baby sleep is that it's a continual process and having someone hold your hand (and your spouse's) for two weeks can not be overhyped. It's a huge help. Thanks Amy!"

Ellen | Mom of 13-month-old Onni

Wichita, KS
“So we decided to work with Amy because our kiddo couldn't settle himself down on his own. We would battle at naptime for 3 plus hours if he wasn't nursed to sleep and even at that we would only get a 30 min nap. Same thing at night. So by going through the program he can now usually calm himself in 20 mins, usually little crying mostly him just babbling and talking. We are so glad she gave us the tools to help our kiddo and put our hearts at ease...that he really can do it on his own."

Hannah | Mom of 17-month-old Walker

Topeka, KS
“I wouldn’t say we were desperate when we came
to Amy but we knew our sleep could be better. He had given up naps at 20 months and was typically a crank by 5pm. Then he started waking up a couple times at night so we thought we better make some changes yet weren’t really sure what to do since it wasn’t “horrible”. We were not expecting the benefits we were going to see from Bo sleeping more. He became less cranky at the end of the
day, he started sleeping through the night (now very important with a 4-month-old sibling) and his language took off in a matter of two weeks. On top
of that he is now napping at least 4 days a week! Not only was everyone less cranky but now we were able to communicate with him much better, eliminating a lot of stress. We are super thankful for the support Amy provided with us not only through the plan we could walk through step by step but also readily available to answer any questions we might have or brainstorm ideas on how to work with our given circumstances.”

Jaclyn | Mom of 2-year-old Boaz

Wichita, KS
"I sent out the SOS (save our sleep) to Amy after my therapist encouraged my husband and I to make sleep a number one priority. Our pediatrician also agreed that we needed to make some serious changes. My 8 month old was still waking up 3-6 times a night and would only fall back asleep while nursing. Sleep deprivation was destroying our lives. I wasn't enjoying motherhood and was having really bad thoughts. We had worked so hard in 7 years to build our family through IVF and here I was feeling like I wasn't cut out for it. Sleep deprivation breaks people down, and I was broken. Within just a few days by following Amy's sleep guidance we were all sleeping through the night. We're less than two weeks in the program and Finn has already graduated! I'm amazed at how much better he naps too. No more cat naps or spending 40 minutes to get him to sleep just for a 30 minute nap. For all sleeping routines, I can lay him down and he will fall asleep within minutes in his crib without tears. Amy has honestly healed our family. I have a happy, well rested baby and I am a happy, well rested mama! With about 10 days of solid 8 hours of sleep at night I can genuinely say I am enjoying motherhood and my all around life again. Worth the investment over and over again."
